DATA 790 - Transportation and Data

Summer 1 / June 5 to June 29

This course is about transportation and data. It can fulfill the program requirement for theory (701/702) or methods course (765). We will explore four topics: (1) infrastructure improvements including transit to metro airports, bike lanes and electric vehicles; (2) discounted payment methods including MetroCard, OMNY and EZPass; (3) data privacy including GPS, digital payments and apps; and (4) cost of travel including congestion pricing, express buses and rideshare. Using one topic of your choice, you will learn how to design and implement an online survey research project using Survey Monkey and prepare a research paper and presentation that documents your methods and findings. The class is asynchronous and fast-paced, and you will be able to move at your own pace adhering to strict due dates for assignments. There will be clear instructions on how to proceed and I will stand by to give you personal assistance as necessary.
