Dear Students. We will be holding the next workshop on Transitioning to the Workplace on Thursday June 27 at 6:30 for an hour plus. Virtual on Zoom. This semester's workshop will concentrate on the wide variety of industries where there are opportunities that fit our MA Degree in Data Analytics and Applied Social Research. On tap are alumni who will speak about their experiences in the job market. Come, there is a lot to learn. Free, of course. More information will follow. Survey 160 is a research company that builds and uses proprietary software to conduct live interviewer SMS and text-to-web surveys on elections, public policy, and other topics. This survey management contractor will work with the Chief Research Officer and Director of Survey Operations to conduct quantitative research both in support of client projects and company-wide services, clean/sort/maintain survey data, and assist with ongoing client operations with respect to data collection using our proprietary software. Through this work, you will help Survey 160 achieve its mission of providing accurate and actionable public opinion research at affordable costs. The survey management contractor role is fully remote and can be based anywhere, conditional on being authorized to work in the United States. For this role, we are looking for someone willing to work evening and weekend hours. This is a temporary position to support data collection efforts during the 2024 election season and is expected to end in November 2024. This position is ideal for late-stage PhD students or other candidates with established quantitative skills and schedule flexibility. We are looking for candidates who are passionate about survey research, methodological innovation and advancing progressive values. REQUIREMENTS * 1-2 years of experience in programming surveys, performing quality control checks, and/or managing projects for clients. * Demonstrated fluency with R or Stata for cleaning and analyzing data; proven ability to debug own code and code of others. * Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, especially in writing appropriate to be delivered to a client. * Proficiencies in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets. * Ability to work well with remote colleagues. * Problem-solving, critical thinking & communication skills. * Highest degree of integrity, specifically with respect to access to sensitive client information/data. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Demonstrated interest in advancing progressive values. * Prior academic or industry experience with survey design and/or survey data analysis, especially including list-based sampling, weighting, and preparation of toplines and crosstabs. * Ability to creatively contribute to internal research to develop best practices for live SMS and text-to-web surveys. LOCATION Survey 160 is a fully remote company, though all applicants must be eligible to work in the United States and be able to virtually meet with other team members during US time zone working hours. Willingness to work night and night weekend hours is preferred for this contract position. COMPENSATION The compensation for this contract is $35 per hour. HOURS We are looking for flexible capacity for up to 20 hours per week. For this role, we are looking for someone who is willing to work on Saturdays, Sundays, and evenings. Specifics are negotiable, but the ability to at least be on call during weekends is essential. Additionally, we are looking for someone willing to work in Eastern time or earlier. Dear colleagues and friends, We are excited to announce that the first meeting of the Sociology Department Seminar Series will take place next Wednesday (March 6) at 12:15 p.m. in the Sociology Department Lounge (PH-252). We will have our very own Christine Jang-Trettien to workshop her working paper entitled "Chronic Pain and the Geographic Clustering of Disability Assistance in the United States." This paper is going to be submitted to the PNAS soon, so your feedback will be greatly appreciated! Methodological Student Trainees At the incoming or early graduate level, responsibilities include: • Harmonization of cases and variables across multiple data sets; • Assisting with questionnaire design, including measurement conceptualization to address issues of concern to U.S. policymakers; • Assisting with data cleaning and data quality assessments; • Helping develop data visualizations for complex survey data; • Analyze global data to detect patterns and changes in foreign opinion over time and across countries• Support analysts with qualitative or statistical analysis of public opinion survey data (may include support employing Machine Learning and/or Artificial Intelligence techniques) At the seasoned graduate level, responsibilities include: • Help develop sampling strategies for probability-based sampling in face-to-face, telephone, and mixed mode/multiple-frame surveys • Evaluate weighting and sampling approaches for complex sample designs, including strategies to mitigate unit and item non-response • Assist with survey design (including innovative research designs for challenging environments and hard-to-reach populations) • Support a data science approach to cataloging and analysis of datasets • Analyze global data to detect patterns and changes in foreign opinion over time and across countries • Conduct literature reviews of advanced survey and analytic methods and presenting findings to staff • Help develop training curriculum for internal and external staff • Support analysts with questionnaire design, data visualizations, qualitative analysis, and/or advanced multi-variable analysis of public opinion data (may include support employing Machine Learning and/or Artificial Intelligence techniques) To Apply U.S. Citizenship is required.
