[Club_leaders_2020-2021 0246] There's Still Time to Register ...
by JC Carlson 28 Apr '21

28 Apr '21
Break the Silence: We Will Not Be Bullied and Harassed! Friday, April 30th, 4pm - 5pm Please join us for an empowering event celebrating the strength and resilience of our LGBTQI+ students. Break the Silence: We Will Not Be Bullied and Harassed will be held this year on Friday, April 30th at 4PM. Please Register by April 29th: https://tinyurl.com/BREAKit2021 National Day of Silence was created by GLSEN in 1996. This event sheds light on what many LGBTQI+ youth experience daily. Initially intended to focus on this problem within workplaces, this campaign subsequently expanded into university campuses, school systems, and sporting events. Yearly, millions participate by staying silent for the duration of their day, representing the silencing of LGBTQI+ students. Many participants choose to wear tape over their mouths or Xs on their hands to further call attention to the movement. Please observe this tradition, if you are able, on National Day of Silence, which will be held this year on April 23rd. At 4 pm on Friday, April 30th, we will officially break our silence, tell stories, share feelings, and explore ways in which we can more effectively take control of our lives and identities. Poetry, song, art and all forms of creative expression are welcome at the open sharing portion of the program. A short film will be screened with commentary by the Trevor Project. This event will be recorded and archived at the CUNY LaGuardia and Wagner Archives. This event is made possible through the generous support of LaGuardia Community College/CUNY and the New York City Council through the offices of Daniel Dromm (District 25) and Speaker Corey Johnson. Co-sponsors: The Queens College Office of Student Development and Leadership, the CUNY Office of Student Inclusion Initiatives, the Women and Gender Studies Program at Queens College, the Queens College Counseling Services Center, and the Gender, Love and Sexuality Alliance/GLASA, at Queens College. We hope to see you there!
