This is a great opportunity to get hands-on PAID experience, while providing a great service for the community.

Primary Function:

The Tax Preparer provides free, quality tax return preparation for eligible taxpayers.  In addition, advises taxpayers of other social services they may qualify for. Tax Preparers are responsible for preparing accurate tax returns and must uphold the highest ethical standards and have a passion for helping their community.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Successfully complete the online training and testing to be certified by the IRS.
• Successfully complete the free TaxWise tax preparation software to complete tax returns and prepare returns using electronic filing software.
• Interview the client to determine that all income is reported and all allowable deductions are claimed and evaluate client’s eligibility for other social service benefits.
• Directly prepare the client’s return, based upon the information provided by the client and the client’s answers provided on the intake form.
• Timely review all returns for tax and technical accuracy before the returns are provided to the clients or electronically transmitted.

 

Qualifications:

• Basic computer skills for inputting tax return data into the tax preparation software.
• Strong aptitude for math or accounting. You will be tested.
• Strong attention to DETAILS!
• Ability to communicate effectively, including the ability to interview clients about personal, financial matters and communicating tax issues to clients in a non-threatening manner. 
• Ability to effectively research tax issues, using the materials available at the site.

• Friendly, dependable and flexible and detail oriented.

• Candidates should have basic knowledge of personal income taxes as well as tax law knowledge.
• Bilingual (Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Russian) is a definite plus.

Hours: Must be able to work at least 3 days per week.

Mon-Fri 10am to 6pm or Tue-Thurs 12pm to 7pm & Sat 9a-5pm.

Part-Time Eves: Must be able to work at least 3 days per week, and Saturdays. Hours: Mon-Fri 6pm to 9/10 pm & Sat 9a-5pm

Pay Rate: $14 per hour
