Dear Accounting Student: If you are a transfer student and intend on sitting for the CPA exam after graduation, this may affect you: As you know, when you transferred into Queens College you may have not received transfer course credit for all of your Accounting courses. Examples may include Intermediate Accounting, Business Law 2, etc. Even though you were not awarded course credit, you were given 499 blanket credit for these courses, meaning that they counted toward the 120 credits necessary for graduation. New York State, through NASBA (its designated agent for CPA qualification), is now taking the position that because you are in effect repeating these courses, that they will not count these courses toward the 120 credit CPA requirement needed to sit for the exam. Accordingly, affected students should take additional elective courses (in any Department) to make up for such credits and to avoid any such deficiency. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you, but by knowing this policy in advance, you should be able to plan your program appropriately, and thus reduce the impact on your eligibility to sit for the CPA exam.
