INTERN POSITION AT JOEL RADA C.P.A.  

The intern will work directly with Joel Rada, C.P.A.  and   Janice Halpern, C.P.A.  Both have over 30 years  of experience in various positions in public and private accounting.

The position will offer participation in certified audits, preparation of financial statements, office management tasks along with client interaction.

 The intern prospect should have some knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word. Also, if possible, some Quickbooks , but not absolutely necessary.  The intern prospect should have at least completed an Elementary Accounting  course.

Certified Audits

Our practice is largely real estate oriented. The intern will participate in certified audits as follows:

Accruals

Intern will obtain evidence for the accrual process. The intern will search the paid bills file and unpaid bills via a typical “search for unrecorded liabilities.” Intern will use audit evidence including date of receipt for supplies, and date of service to recommend accrual. Intern will prepare excel worksheet with accrual amount and expense account classification.  Intern will photocopy invoice as audit evidence.  Intern will assemble accrued expenses audit work-papers.

Confirmations

Intern will check in confirmations and file in audit folder. Intern will assemble cash audit work-papers and learn how to prepare that section of the work-papers including cross-referencing from general ledger to trial balance to confirmation.

Income

Intern will assist in preparation of reconciliations of income. Intern uses billing registers, property collections reports and general ledgers to locate income discrepancies..

Fixed Assets

Intern will assemble invoices that are possible for capitalization and will understand what can be capitalized and what is a repair and maintenance expense.

Preparation of Certified Statements

Intern will first take prior year report and use Word and Excel to prepare the “skeleton” of the next  year report. Intern will assist with preparation of report and footnotes.

Monthly Cash Reports

Intern will photocopy invoices for monthly cash reports greater than $500. This is done at client’s office and intern must have good interactive skills. Intern will learn to use the client’s files and follow the client’s rules to keep the files in good shape.

Intern will learn to prepare the entire report over time.  In doing so, intern learns interaction of cash receipt, disbursement and billing registers with general ledger.

Intern assists in mailing, emailing and related scanning and photocopying.

Taxation/Bookkeeping

Intern will prepare schedule to update partnership data for partnership tax returns

 Intern will use quick-books and or Excel to “write up” for smaller clients to prepare for tax returns of small businesses.

Real Estate Tax Abatements

Intern will update and manage large database files used to assist clients with administration of real estate tax abatements. Intern will perform input/output checks.

 Record Retention

Intern assists with ongoing scanning to turn paper records to electronic files.

Office Assistance

Intern will answer phones and take messages, obtain/forward tax documents when people call for a lost copy of their k-1 or 1098.

Intern will file, help to order supplies,  and unload the supply box.
