PLEASE DO NOT REPLY !! Dear QC Student: I am writing to inform you of a unique opportunity that will enhance your resume and also provide you with valuable hands-on tax preparation experience. Selected Queens College students will be allowed to participate in the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) sponsored Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program for the 2019 tax-filing season. Student volunteers will learn how to prepare income tax returns using professional tax preparation software. Volunteers will also receive certification as IRS Certified volunteer tax preparers. No prior income tax exposure is necessary. The students selected to participate in this program will receive ALL the necessary training (tax law and tax software) before the tax season begins. In addition, students will develop a number of other skills such as problem solving, teamwork, critical thinking and leadership that are considered valuable to entry-level accounting and business professionals. This is an excellent opportunity for you to gain exposure to income taxes prior to completing a course in taxation. In addition, this will increase your chances of being successful in the tax course. Dear Accounting Seniors Graduating in May or September: Here is an opportunity for you to take one or two graduate courses this spring as an undergraduate. Here are the requirements: 1. You must be graduating this spring or summer. 2. Your overall GPA must be 3.3+. 3. Your intention is to join the Accounting Masters Program upon graduation. 4. You are presently registered for three or fewer undergraduate courses for the spring semester. If you qualify, I have a limited number of seats available in our graduate program. These credits cannot count toward your undergraduate degree (unless you are a second degree student). They will however transfer to your graduate record provided you earn a grade of B- or better. You may be charged the graduate tuition rate for these courses. If you are interested, see me on January 10 or 24 from 3-7 PM in my office in PH 215 to register.
