Queens College Business Forum Scholarship Competition
The sponsors of the Queens College Business Forum (The Queens Borough
President’s Office, The Queens Chamber of Commerce, Farrell Fritz, TD Bank,
PricewaterhouseCoopers and the Queens Courier) are pleased to announce the
2014 QCBF Scholarship competition. A $2,500 scholarship will be awarded at the
June 2014 Business Forum. Requirements and deadlines are listed below.
Guidelines for Application Business Forum Scholarship
The QCBF Scholarship is given to a student in one of the Queens College
business programs (Accounting, Economics, BBA, and BALA) with outstanding
academic performance and who demonstrates an enthusiasm and/or appreciation
for the field that suggests she/he will go on to a successful career.
Consideration will also be given to service to the community or to the College and
fellow students, as well as employment experience and extracurricular
activities.
1. Please consider nominating an outstanding student. Students may also
nominate themselves but must submit a recommendation from a full-time faculty
member. Additional recommendations from full-time or adjunct faculty will
be considered. The deadline for applications/nominations is Friday, May 30,
2014. Applications should be submitted to Elvira Casper in the Dean's
Office, PH 331 or by email to _elvira.casper(a)qc.cuny.edu_
(mailto:elvira.casper@qc.cuny.edu) . Given the short deadline, please consider those students
who have recently been evaluated for the various economics department honors
and awards and consider writing a letter of recommendation on their behalf.
2. In order to be eligible to apply or to be nominated, students must have
at least a 3.2 overall GPA and 3.5 in the major. Lower juniors and upper
sophomores are eligible to apply.
3. Students must submit an essay of no more than 750 words that explains
their interest in their field of study and the courses that have been most
meaningful and interesting. The essay should explain how receiving the
scholarship would impact the applicant and should indicate future plans,
including both career plans and any plans for graduate study. Applicants are also
encouraged to write about some of their other interests beyond their major
field of study. The application must also include a transcript, CV and one
to two faculty recommendations.
4. The selection committee shall consist of the Dean of Social Sciences,
one representative of each of the business programs, and one representative
from each sponsor. The decisions will be based on reviews of transcripts,
CVs, letters of recommendation, and essays. In evaluating the transcript,
attention will be paid not just to the GPA, but to the specific courses taken
and their difficulty.
5. Priority may be given to students who have been active in the Business
Forum.
6. Scholarships are not renewable.
