<br>
Critical thinking and general education skills, along with reading and writing, have become central to academic ESL/ELL curricula. Educators in the field recognize these interconnected skills as foundations for academic success for ESL/ELL learners. However,
when moving beyond the ESL/ELL classroom into credit bearing courses in other disciplines, English language learners might encounter educators who, although well-versed in the pedagogy of their content areas, are unprepared to provide continuing support in
English language development. To ensure their continued success, ESL/ELL learners require teaching practices centered on the listening, reading and writing processes and pedagogical approaches that encompass aspects of a culturally diverse classroom including
different learning styles, general education skills, and socio-cultural classroom behavior. The goal of this year’s ELL Forum is to engage in a cross-disciplinary discussion about the challenges in teaching ESL/ELL learners across the disciplines, and identify
ways to improve pedagogy and curricula to better meet the needs of the urban, diverse and multilingual teaching and learning environment as it<br>
