Each year, the CUNY Accessibility Conference brings together hundreds of participants from the New York City region and across North America to discuss accessibility, disability services and disability activism in the context of postsecondary education.
Two years after the start of an unprecedented pandemic and resultant transitions nationwide, we are returning to our foundation. The conference theme for 2022 is The State of Accessibility: Are we living up to the promise of compliance and the law? With this theme we hope to reflect topics such as on meeting the promise, falling short, advancements the law did not anticipate, and moving beyond a legal framework of accessibility.
Suggested Topics
We invite proposals for engaging presentations that will foster meaningful discussion on topics including, but not limited to:
* Current state of ADA
* 30+ year: history of ADA
* Transitioning from IDEA to ADA
* ADA for international students
* Beyond the law: disability frameworks
* Disability justice
* Legal intersections
* New barriers, new solutions
* Promoting and facilitating accessibility across all institutional functions
* Concerning complaints and considering compliance
* Section 14(c) of the FLSA
* SSDI: forced poverty
* WCAG compliance
* Student involvement in establishing policy and practice to ensure compliance
* Knowing who we serve
* The role of creativity in achieving compliance
* Perils and promise of the virtual environment
* Tools and methods for tracking compliance
We are particularly interested in detailed proposals for presentations that:
* seek to engage the audience via remote platforms (discussions, breakout rooms, surveys/polls, collaborative tools, etc.)
* feature cross-disciplinary work
