Faculty Workshop: Teaching Portfolios, October 19, 2018

When: Friday, October 19, 10am-1pm
Where: Rosenthal Library 227

Faculty Portfolios provide evidence of teaching from a variety of sources and allow for reflection on, and improvement of, one’s teaching over time. Creating a public, professional view of one’s teaching as a scholarly activity can be useful for job applications, promotions and tenure review as well as one’s own pedagogical research.

The Queens College Center for Teaching & Learning will be conducting a workshop on creating an online Faculty Portfolio. This two-day hybrid workshop will include online asynchronous “preworkshop” activities followed by a face-face working session.

Preworkshop Activities
Participants will be provided with materials and guidelines on curating content for a teaching portfolio, and crafting an effective teaching statement. Participants will create a draft of a teaching statement, which they can revise with the help of the Center for Teaching & Learning.

On Thursday, October 18th, there will be drop-in “Open Office Hours” with the Center for Teaching & Learning between 3-6pm, which you can use to fine-tune your teaching statement, and select which material will best represent you as a faculty member.

Face-to-Face Workshop (RO 227), 10:00am-1:00pm
On Friday, October 19th we will utilize the materials developed during the “preworkshop” phase in a hands-on technical workshop where participants will set up a portfolio website and begin populating it with content.

At the end of the workshop you can expect to:

- Understand what elements constitute a professional portfolio
- Create a strong draft of your teaching statement
- Walk away with the architecture for a website to house your portfolio and an understanding of how to get your content into it
