Dear Colleagues:
Provost Stellar has asked me to organize a meeting to discuss the
development of a new course, College Writing 2, which will be a part of
our General Education curriculum beginning Fall 2013. The meeting will be
held on Tuesday, May 1, at 12:00 in the Q-Side Lounge.
As you know, the CUNY Pathways Initiative calls for all students to take
six credits of English Composition. Currently, we are offering only one
semester of college writing, English 110. We see this as the chance to
provide more writing instruction for our students, and also to engage the
entire college in the development and teaching of the new course. We want
this course to be taught by faculty throughout the college.
We see College Writing 2 as situated in the disciplines and divisions; we
would offer such courses as writing in history, or biology, literature, or
anthropology, as well as writing in the social sciences or sciences, arts
and humanities, or education.
The meeting will be an information session, with Gloria Fisk (Director of
Composition) and Kevin Ferguson (Acting Director of Writing at Queens)
describing the expectations and guidelines for College Writing 2, and
giving the group the opportunity to think through how best to implement
the new course. We'll have a chance to discuss sample course overviews,
and possible assignments in varied disciplines.
If you are interested in teaching such a course or in leading your
department or division in becoming part of this project, please come to
the meeting. If you cannot attend the meeting, please let us know that
you're interested in being part of the process of developing College
Writing 2.
Please RSVP to Ann.Morgado at qc.cuny.edu
Best,
Judith
